The Republicans have looked like political eunuchs, scared to fight on important issues. Someone had to do something. David Brody of the Christian Broadcast Network finally broke this story. This is what I’ve been waiting to see: a real attempt to fight against Obama. After all, McCain is not doing it.
The Brody File article discusses a flyer put out by the Christian Defense Coalition (CDC). The flyer is a pro-life message that is not simply divisive–it can win because it is powerful and difficult to argue against. CDC accuses Obama of being the “Abortion President.” As the graphic below reveals, it is very well done. But that’s not all folks. Like the TV ads, “Wait! There’s more!” Along with the picture, CDC makes an analogy to slavery that literally knocks the chip off Obama’s shoulder.
CDC’s analogy of slavery to abortion (all the while calling Obama the Abortion President) seems to insinuate that Barack isn’t really interested in freeing people. The analogy is powerful for one reason: It seeks to steal the racial barrier from what has heretofore been impossible: the Democrats. The analogy is as follows: For Barack to claim that he is personally opposed to abortion but supports a woman’s right to choose is like saying one is personally opposed to slavery but supports a white man’s right to own slaves.
In fact, an ABC NEWS commentator is already trying to circle the proverbial wagons, reporting that Barack seems to be a centrist on abortion. You be the judge and decide. Take a look at the graphic below. I also pasted the CDC article below for convenience. Here’s round 1 of the fight:

Whatever one thinks of the issue of abortion, this is exactly how to go after Obama on a major conservative issue. Knock that chip off his shoulder. Remove color from the equation and hit him as a proponent of slavery. It is a bold move that is high risk but high gain. McCain could have invoked this issue to persuade a number of voters who believe, strangely, that Obama is still pro-life. I still fail to understand why McCain, whose voting record is essentially Pro-Life, has failed to do it other than the fact that he doesn’t have a political reality of the power of the Christian people in America.
For the reader’s convenience, I have reproduced the CBN article below:
Christian Group Launches “Abortion President” Campaign against Barack Obama
July 7, 2008
Oh my. The fight against Barack Obama on abortion has officially begun. The Christian Defense Coalition, who are known to shock folks from time to time, have come up with a new campaign called: “Barack Obama: The Abortion President”. They are going to make clear that Obama wants taxpayers to foot the bill on abortions. They are also going to lay bare his record on abortion. They’ll conduct a news conference Tuesday in front of the Hart Senate Office Building where Obama’s Senate office is located.
Look at the picture they are unveiling. Pretty shocking. [The Oath: Picture is pasted above.] Read a statement below from Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition:
“Senator Obama talks about bringing hope, faith and change to American politics. We now see this is all just political ‘doublespeak.’ One of his top priorities as President would be protecting abortion rights and even expanding them. If elected, Senator Obama would become ‘The Abortion President,’ with the most extremist policies on abortion of any President in history.
“Senator Obama’s views on abortion are so radical that he even wants American citizens to pay for them. This would include Catholics, Evangelicals and all people of faith. He would also expand abortion rights through his passionate support of The Freedom of Choice Act.
“The Christian Defense Coalition will be working diligently over the next 5 months before the November elections to educate people of faith, especially Catholics, that Barack Obama wants them to pay for abortions. This is not a candidate who is concerned about social justice, hope and equality. Rather, this is candidate who will continue the violence and pain of abortion and refuse to end this tragic war against America’s women and children.”
Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan sent out the following statement:
“Barack Obama understands that the best way to reduce the need for abortions is to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. He is committed to commonsense solutions to achieve that objective and to changing the tone of the discourse which for too long has devolved into false and negative attacks such as this that do nothing to accomplish that goal”
Folks, The Brody File has been telling you this sort of effort was coming. Some of these pro-life groups look at the polling and find that many Americans either think Obama is either pro-life or they’re not sure. This campaign is an attempt to set the record straight. Don’t think for a minute this is one ‘fringe” group. This effort represents the broader feelings with many conservative Evangelical groups.
This is Obama’s challenge with Evangelicals. He can talk about the social justice issues all he wants and yes, it resonates to a certain extent but unless he moves on abortion (not likely) he’ll have a problem. If he shows some support for parental notification laws or the annual fetal pain bill that moves through Congress then that will help insulate him to a degree on the extremist abortion tag.
The bigger issue here for the Obama campaign is just how widespread and vocal pro-life groups may end up being on this issue. Obama can’t afford the extreme liberal tag and if these groups continue to pound home the abortion theme, it doesn’t fit the narrative that Obama needs to be successful.

[...] The Oath: Are we on track for America’s first Abortion President? [...]
Hello Greg, the media has refused to mention anything about my candidacy for President which makes me laugh. I have tried to piss them off, tried to fill their e-mail boxes, tried to get other media giants from around the world so mad so that someone would talk about me. Still not a peep, you want to know why? THEY ARE AFRAID OF ME. They have such a fear of my name getting out into the pubic view that they are not going to publish anything about me. Now, I have so much dirty laundry with me you could fill a book, and the things I have said to them that I plan to do to fix this country and stop these wars have them pooping in their pants. They are so afraid I will do what I said I would do when elected President they won’t even give me a single comment good or bad anywhere not even on CNN. That’s alright thou, my campaign is jumping forward every day and before long I will be out front in the spot light and millions will be demanding major changes, not the hot air changes OBAMA & McCain are giving us. I plan to turn our government up on it’s ears and weed out all the corruption and lack of respect being shown to our citizens. They all have claimed to fight for us in our congress, well, guys and gals, put up your dukes, cause I’m coming through your congress doors swinging and I’m planning on knocking you all out with just one blow to your big mouths.

The media in this country are cowards, it’s so sad a no body like me from North Carolina can have them cowering in their little corners so afraid.
This article is a load of crap. First of all, the government has no right to tell a woman what to do with her body, she will eventually have to answer for her actions before the Almighty and as “christians” we are not suppose to be judgemental. I am sure some of you conversatives know something about that. As you all know, you are not suppose to have sex before marriage anyway, so saying you are pro-life is saying you are pro-adultery and pro-fornication.
Second, abortion and slavery cannot be compared on any level. Period. It is ludacris to even begin to formualte an idea like that. Just to remind you all, “christians” wrote the constitution to be free of British oppression and owned slaves at the same time. Hypocrites!
I served my country for 10 years in the Marine Corps and I have traveled to every continent on the planet except Antartica. Women in some countries don’t even have the right to sit together in a resturant or even go shopping without permission from a man or the male memeber of their household. We have a lot of choices and we as a people run our government. That is the great thing about this country, we have the right to choices. Ultimately, the choices that we make will have to be accounted for before God, not by the government.
JoAnn,
Please read Romans 13:4 and then tell me why abortion isn’t “evil” subject to punishment by the civil authority.
To Conservatives:
As a former conservative, I have a lot of issues with this campaign. It seems that the conservative right have turned to accepting lies and outright gimmicks to elect their candidate. Many on the Christian right have not challenged this and have continued to put their support behind Palin and McCain with no concern for their unethical behavior. Fine, don’t vote for Obama. I can understand that. But, I find it non-Christian in many ways the way people from the right are spreading lies, making things up to make Obama look bad, and buying into the political hate machine that is the Republican party. I am a former Republican. I will cast my vote for the first time in favor of a Democrat. McCain has lost all his dignity, honor, and integrity and I would hate to have him leading our country with Palin as second in command and ready to run over anyone and anything to get to the top spot. She has been proven to be vindictive and a horrible person, repeating lies even when they are debunked. McCain has continually put out ads that are full of lies. How do you people buy this garbage?
Here are a few of those lies I have done research on.
1. Palin opposed the bridge to nowhere.
2. Obama called Palin a ‘pig’.
3. Obama favored comprehensive sex education for kindergartners.
4. Obama would raise most people’s taxes.
5. Palin never took earmarks as Governor.
6. Obama didn’t go to Iraq because the Pentagon wouldn’t allow him to bring cameras.
7. McCain said he’s supported Arizona’s MLK Day.
8. McCain said Palin sold Alaska’s jet for a profit.
9. Palin visited Iraq.
10. Said that Factcheck had called Obama’s attacks on Palin false and misleading.
11. Said that the WSJ had written that Obama had sent a team to Alaska to “dig dirt” on Palin.
12. Taylor Griffin claimed that Palin was asking the librarian about banning books because a citizen had asked for a book to be removed. Didn’t happen.
13. McCain claimed he voted in favour of a Katrina investigation.
14. Many false claims about Obama’s taxation plans including a lie that Obama was going to tax electricity.
15. McCain lied to Fox News about the makeup of a town hall session that was produced by the McCain campaign and filmed by Fox. He told Fox News the audience would be mixed Republican, Democrat and Independent then his campaign sold tickets to Republicans only.
16. McCain said Iraq is safer and that General Patreus goes out in Baghdad in an unarmored Humvee.
17. Palin said state scientists found that polar bears were not in endangered even though that report by the scientists said they were.
18. Palin denied her and her husband pressured for a State Troopers firing. She now admits her husband might have pressured for it.
19. Lied about the Fairfax City Fire Marshall estimating crowd size – he didn’t.
Amazing!
FR
FR,
You were never a conservative. Sorry. With 19 bouts of mislogic in a post applied to Obama written before Palin was nominated?
C’mon little buddy….out of the closet you.
